The grouped finials are permanently fixed to their base. The finials are oak rescued from the top edge of a church pew. The base is a piece of heart pine rescued from a historic building in Tampa, FL. It retains its original rough cut finish and aged patina. The finials are stained dark brown and finished with liming which is what gives fills the grain and makes the white stripes. They are also coated with clear wax to preserve the liming effect.
I am particularly fond of the finial as an accessory. They work well alone, as a statement piece, or as a way to add height to a group of short items. I think finials look particularly striking on mantles and floating shelves.
