Often friends bring me logs and broken bits of furniture. Sometimes I forget to write on the log what it is and where it came from. Not this time. I had written 'Alder' all over this log.
When I painted them I had home office and functionality in mind. With the shift to working from home I feel that minimalism and multi-function in home accessories is important . It helps prevent homelife from looking like worklife. Who wants an office looking office space in their home?
While the vessel doesn't hold water, it is the perfect depth to hold pens. Permanent Markers are just the right size for this vessel.
Wood is like our skin; it is affected by forces such as humidity and altitude. In a humid climate like Florida the cracks in this vessel are minimal. If it were to be taken to a dry climate the cracks could open up more. If it were taken to a tropical environment the wood would probably swell a tiny bit and close up those cracks.
The last photo shows some cracks in the base of the vessel. They were there when I got the log. There were there when I turned the vessel. They have been there as the vessel sat in my shop for six months to make sure the cracks were not going to move.
I wouldn't particularly recommend this vessel for an arid climate just in case the lack of humidity caused a problem. However, the vessel is covered by the warranty which can be found on the FAQ page.
